The Tigers must have suffered from jet lag on Monday night as The A's pummled The Tigers in Game 1 of The 3 Game Series in Oakland, California. It was a pitching contest between two of the most promising rookies Rick Porcello versus Brett Anderson of The A's.
Porcelllo struggled through 4 and 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks. Oakland picked up 2 runs in the fourth inning. A double on a grounder by Kurt Suzuki brought home Matt Holiday. Ryan Sweeney followed with a single on another grounder and Jason Giambi scored.
It was all A's in the 5th inning as the pushed their lead to 0 to 5 with 2 run homer by Mark Ellis. Tigers Fu-Te Ni made his first major league debut on the mound and gave up a run on a Matt Holiday grounder/ force out and Adam Kennedy scored the run.
Brett Anderson of the A's pitched the first 5 and 1/3 innings and held The Tigers to 4 hits with 7 strikeouts 1 run and walked 4 batters.
Ziggler The Relief Pitcher for The A's gave up the only run to The Tigers in the 6th inning on a Gerald Laird stand up double to left field and Marcus Themes scored the run. Oakland's Ryan Sweeney tapped out a homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Freddy Dolsi closed for the Tigers and pitched the 2 final innings. The A's finished off The Tigers in the 7th inning with an unearned run as Jason Gaimbi reached on a throwing error by Shortstop Adam Everett and Matt Holliday scored.
The A's picked up The Win in walk off fashion and The Tigers quietly left the field.
